Where We Work

Brazil

By 2050, 91 percent of Brazil’s population is expected to be living in urban areas. The help Brazil's cities grow sustainably, the FedEx-EMBARQ MAP Center in Brazil helps transit agencies and operators build high capacity, sustainable transport systems.

The QualiÔnibus project is a three-part toolkit that helps cities build successful transport systems:

BRT Day 1 of Operations: The first day of operation of a new transit system is crucial to its continued success. Through the BRT Day One of Operations project, EMBARQ Brasil reviews BRT contingency plans and emergency operational procedures; conducts workshops for government, bus agencies, and bus service company staff; and publishes guidelines for transit agencies and local governments. The project has assisted successful BRT launches in Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. Download the publication

System Perception and Image Survey Project: In 2013, the FedEx-EMBARQ MAP Center in Brazil developed a quality of service survey for transit agencies designed to capture opinions from passengers about transit operations in order to identify problems, make improvements, benchmark progress, and share knowledge. The survey has been used to evaluate transport quality of service in Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Joinville, and Rio de Janeiro, with fieldwork in additional cities planned. Download the publication

Safety First for BRT Systems: Safety First for BRT systems is a driver training and institutional road safety incentive program. The project began implementation in Belo Horizonte, where more than 3,000 drivers have been trained. Download the publication
